Old Kingdom statue to be repatriated from France

On 1st of October, Cairo airport will receive a statue dated to 6th Dynasty back from France.

The statue was stolen from Sakkara antiquities warehouse. The person who had possession of the statue decided to return it to Egypt when he knew it was stolen and smuggled. 
Mr. Ahmed Ali, head of repatriated antiquities department, said "The wooden statue is 33cm length. 
It is a cosmetic spoon depicts a swimming woman."

It will be received by a committee of the Egyptian Museum upon arrival.

MOA stops the sale of Islamic artefact in London

Minister of Antiquities says "All legal procedures were taken to stop the sale of an artefact in London and repatriate it back to Egypt."

Ali Ahmed, director of the repatriated antiquities department, said "The artefact is a glass bottle dated to Mamluk era (15th century). The bottle is spherical glass decorated with floral textured patterns in red enamel."

240 artefacts are finally repatriated from France


As it was announced back in November 2014, that the French authorities will hand the Egyptian embassy in Paris a number of 239 artefacts which were smuggled out of Egypt. 
 
In November it was said "in a few days" well, what is 6 months for a country it's history spans over thousands of years. (Click HERE to read the original post on 25th November 2014)

Anyway, the repatriated antiquities arrived to Cairo airport last night and according to Dr. Mamdouh El Damamty, they are 240 not 239.


Ali Ahmed, Director of the Repatriated Antiquities department, said “The artefacts are dated to different era of Ancient Egyptian civilization. They include; coloured wooden statues of sailors which were a part of a funerary boat model, a limestone tablet showing a scene of offering to Isis and Osiris as well as a number of amulets, Ushabtis, pottery and stone vessels beside Roman, Byzantine and Islamic coins.

Egypt will repatriate Late Period antiquities from French owner

"A French person who has possession of a Late Period antiquity expressed his will to give it back to Egypt even though has has ownership documents." Minister of Antiquities said today.

Ali Ahmed, director of repatriated Antiquities department, said "This object is 19cm height part of a coffin and cartonnage. It has three lines hieroglyphic inscriptions shows the titles of the deceased."


Mr. Ali also said that the Ministry of Antiquities are working in cooperation with Ministry of Foreign Affairs to take the legal procedures to bring antiquities back to Egypt in the near future including the samples were taken from Khufu's Cartouche from Germany.
