Mr. Ehab Gaddis was awarded an Honorary Order of the British Empire (OBE)



Mr. Ehab Gaddis was awarded an Honorary Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his services to the British community and the British Embassy in Egypt as the British Honorary Consul in Luxor.


Mr. Gaddis became an Honorary British Consul for Luxor in 1997. He was born and raised in Luxor and his family is renowned for establishing Gaddis stores in 1907, the oldest souvenir shop in Luxor which his wife Manal helps him operate. Awell as managing the family business he also owns the Gaddis hotel.

Mr Gaddis is being recognised for his commendable commitment and dedication in helping British citizens in difficult situations over the years. His support to the British embassy in Cairo has been exceptional and is greatly appreciated.

The OBE is awarded for having a major local role in any activity, including people whose work has made them known nationally in their chosen area.

Second Solar boat of Khufu restoration project; Third phase


As the co-operation between the Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities and Waseda University continues, today in the presence of the Minister of Antiquities Dr. Ahmed Essa, H.E. the Japanese ambassador in Cairo, Mr. Toshiro Suzuki  and Dr. Sakuji Yoshimura, the director of Waseda university mission in Cairo, the 3rd phase of the restoration project of the second solar boat started.


The third phase include restoring and strengthening of the boat wood in order to reassemble the boat to its original shape. An estimated period for this phase to take is between 2 to 5 years.

Minister of Antiquities speaks about future plans

Dr. Ahmed Essa, minister of Antiquities, released information concerning few upcoming events including starting of the restoration for the wood of the second solar boat of Khufu today. 
He also announced the completion of the restoration and conservation project of the hanging church in old Cairo and said that it will be soon. 
The minister talked about Fatimid Cairo and the damages occurred in El Moez street and said that the security bars that stop the traffic will be replaced and fully working before the beginning of Ramadan (Approx. 10th July) as they were destroyed in the past 2 years.

A new project for restoring historical building in Gamaliya street which is parallel to El Moez street after installing new sewage system which will be starting in few days time. 
The last announcement which should be good news for future visitors of the Giza plateau. The Minister announced that in six month time, the new entrance to the area will be opened as well as the visitor centre which will have large screens to tell the visitors about the site then visitors would step out of the centre to a panoramic view of the three pyramids of Giza and will be able to get on an electric cars/ trains to take them to the pyramid or the Solar boat museum so there would be no hassle from vendors who would only be allowed in the new shops will be built for them.
